It was senior night in the Lehman Lobo volleyball team’s wolf den, but the Lady Rebels ended up routing Lehman in three sets.
Before the game, there was a ceremony to honor Gaby Montoya, who passed away last year in an automobile accident. Montoya would have been a senior this year.
Hays won the first set 25-17. The duo of Hays seniors Kathryn Wristen and Shannon Park drove the majority of Hays’ points during this set.
Hays dominated and won the second set 25-12. The Lady Lobos fought hard, but there were a couple of moments where communications broke down and the Lobos lost some decisive points.
The plucky Lady Lobos were re-energized during the third set. The Lady Lobos took an early lead, but the Rebels soon went on a scoring spree and took the lead back. The Rebels were ahead 24-13 when senior Cheyenne Morgan lead a Lobo six-point scoring drive. The Rebels won the set 25-19.
After the game, Lehman Head Coach Megan Cooper said the overall record does not reflect the amount of work the team has put in nor the team’s level of tenacity.
The Lobos end the season with a 0-16 in district record. The Rebel volleyball team ends the season with a 7-9 in district record and will miss the playoffs for the first time since the year 2000.
