Staff Report on January 13, 2015
Police investigating shooting death, injury

By ANDY SEVILLA

Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and a second seriously injured at a San Marcos apartment complex Monday night.

Officials say Earl Edward Clark III, 42, of San Antonio was found lifeless after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in a common area of the Townwood Apartment complex in the 500 block of Linda Lane.

A second man who was at the apartment complex with Clark — Jay Ryan Guerrero, 20 — also from San Antonio, was found shot multiple times and with life-threatening injuries.

Police say Guerrero was transported to a Central Texas trauma hospital, but investigators are not releasing the name of the facility out of security concerns.

San Marcos police responded to a 911 call of shots fired and reports by residents of the apartment complex of a person lying on the ground just after 11 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12.

Police said the shooting victims were not residents of the Townwood Apartments.

“This does not appear to be a random incident,” Assistant Chief of Police Bob Klett said. “The investigation is in its early stages, but information developed at this point does not indicate a threat to the safety of the general public.”

This is San Marcos’ first homicide in 2015.

The San Marcos Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the shooting and asks anyone who may have witnessed events leading up to the shooting or who may have any information related to the case to contact CID at (512) 753-2300.

Anyone with information may also post tips at www.citizenobserver.com or at Hays County Crime Stoppers at www.callcrimestoppers.com. Tipsters may also call SMPD’s non-emergency line at (512) 753-2108.
