The Candice Warr era is underway at Lehman High as she begins her role as the next Lady Lobo head volleyball coach.
For Warr, who was hired over the summer, working to the team’s strength of speed and agility is her focus.
That methodology was first introduced during the Lady Lobos’ volleyball camp held at the end of July.
It was during one of the practices that a Lehman High senior noticed Warr’s adherence to strength and conditioning.
“One my seniors asked, ‘is this how volleyball is going to be this season?’” Warr said. “I said, ‘Yeah, look at the competition we’re up against. We’ve got to up our game.’ She was excited about that.”
For Warr, being able to move quickly on the floor on both sides of the ball is the goal. Refining the skills for her players is also important.
“I saw during camp that they need (their skills) to be fine-tuned,” Warr said.
Youth will dominate the roster for the Lady Lobos. Seniors Natalia Barajas, Kali Palomarez and Twyla Garica will lead the way.
They will guide a team that has five sophomores, two freshmen and only one junior.
But instilling the mantra of “hard work pays off” will drive the team as they begin the season.
“I’m glad that as a team, they are excited (for the season), and with me coming in with new ideas,” Warr said. “I’m excited to see a change in them as well.
