Tiger volleyball takes 6th in Turner Classic

Five wins over three days helped the Dripping Springs Tiger volleyball team secure 6th place out of a 58-team field at the 2019 Adidas John Turner Classic tournament in Pearland last weekend.

The Tigers (7-4) accomplished the feat by outlasting several top-tier opponents, including a 13-25, 25-19, 25-21 win over Fort Bend Ridge Point, the top team in Class 6A, during pool play action.

Dripping Springs earned the top seed in the gold, or winners, bracket, but dropped their quarterfinal match against 6A foe San Antonio Reagan in straight sets.

After bouncing back by defeating Fort Worth Boswell, Dripping Springs fell to Pearland Dawson in three sets in the 5th/6th place contest.

Tiger seniors Mackenzie Murray and Avery Kalsu both earned all-tournament honors for their performances.

So far through 22 total sets played, Murray leads the team with 72 kills and six aces, while Kalsu has notched 67 kills and seven aces.

Sophomore Madi Lund leads the team with 13 solo blocks, while junior Nicole Herbert has 107 digs.

Dripping Springs hosts Copperas Cove Aug. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
