News release: Holiday Heroes Blood Drive Brings in Donors
On December 27 and 28, 2011, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Blood Center of Central Texas to host blood drives in Hays County to help in increasing the amount of donated blood in time for the New Year’s Holiday. Donation sites were located at Hays County Courthouse in San Marcos, H-E-B in Dripping Springs, Cabela’s in Buda, and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office in San Marcos. Over a two day period, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office brought in 73 donors.
For every one donor, two lives can be saved. All donated blood from the blood drives went to hospitals that service the citizens of Hays County, to include Central Texas Medical Center, Seton Hays, St. David’s, Brackenridge, and Dell Children’s. Hundreds of donations are needed each day to meet the needs of patients in over 37 medical facilities in the ten-county service area making up Central Texas. The Blood Center of Central Texas and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the support of our citizens and businesses in helping to maintain the community blood supply and for spreading the word about the importance of blood donation. We would encourage as many as possible to continue come out and help save a life and donate. Thank you for understanding that Life is in your hands.
The hosts for Holiday Heroes Blood Drive were Cabela’s in Buda, HEB in Dripping Springs, and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office in San Marcos. Our sponsors for this event are Cabela’s, Print This, Sac-n-Pac, Randolph Family Medicine, Seton Medical Center Hays, CFAN, Nutty Brown Café, Trattoria Lisina, and the Hays County Law Enforcement Association. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office and the Blood Center of Central Texas wish to thank them all for their support.
As we start 2012, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and the Blood Center of Central Texas are already planning to team up for at least one blood drive each quarter. While we are still in the planning stages, these events will be fun and helpful for the communities of Hays County and our fellow Central Texans.
