STAFF REPORTS
East of Interstate 35, the Plum Creek runs through hundreds of acres of parkland and open space. During the rainy months of winter, trash and debris washes into the creek and finds its way along the banks in the parks. Since 2004, the Watershed Cleanup Program has greatly improved the pollution levels in Plum Creek. Steeplechase Park, Lake Kyle, Waterleaf Park and the Plum Creek Preserve & Nature Trail are all taking part in the 2012 cleanup.
At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25, volunteers may check in at the covered pavilion at Lake Kyle for job assignments. Equipped with trash bags, small hand tools and other necessary equipment to clean up the banks of Plum Creek, thousands of pounds of trash, some recyclable, will be removed from the parkland and trails. Dead trees and brush are removed and nature trails are groomed just in time for the busy spring and summer.
Generally lasting until noon, all workers are rewarded with a pizza lunch upon conclusion.
