And the winners are...

Mt. City Montage

by PAULINE TOM

Christmas vibes rolled through our streets the week of Christmas.

Children rang our doorbell and ran, just as friends prepared to leave one night. Christmas carols wafted from the truck-drawn trailer bringing a delightful end to our Christmas gathering. A fire truck-drawn Santa made a surprise visit through Mountain City the Tuesday night before Christmas.

Mountain Cityians conducted the first online outdoor Christmas décor adjudication, thanks to a ballot set up by Amy Hilton. The voting went well but, when it came time to put signs in winners’ yards, the signs had been moved to the City Hall garage and, Loving Mountain City could not gain access. So, it was the week after Christmas before signs appeared to recognize these winners:

Grand Award – given to most pleasing display of lights and decorations – 213 Live Court, Holly & Val Cass. By adding lights each year, they delight! Creativity Award – given to the house with the most creative use of lights – 205 Live Oak. Santa’s Workshop Award – given to the house with the best looking wooden decorations – 332 Live Oak. (Funny. This is our house, with a nativity scene. At first, thought it was a mistake.) Animation Award – given to the house with the best-animated display – 114 Cedar Drive. Theme Award – given to the house with the best use of a theme – 114 Pin Oak (with the Dalmatians).

Best of Streets: (For those voted on) 4620 Mountain City Cove, 118 Pecan, 200 Cedar, 314 Cedar, 116 Pin Oak, 124 Pin Oak, 300 Pin Oak Court, 205 Live Oak, 315 Live Oak, 211 and 213 Live Oak Court (tied), 319 Live Oak, 208 Ash and 307 Hemlock.

To make things worse, Loving Mountain City ran out of “Best of Street” signs. So, these winners were not recognized with a sign: 113 Poplar, 125 Poplar, 125 Maple, 131 Maple and 211 Maple.

The big change in 2011 for Mountain City shows up on the City Hall driveway each weekend, unless it’s full and behind the privacy fence. During rainy weather, the recycling bin does not move behind the fence when it’s full. Rather, it’s locked. Why did Mountain City quit recycling glass? The recycler no longer accepts glass.

No change regarding tidbits for Montage. Please delight me. [email protected]. Text or call 517-5678. May you have a blessed and happy New Year!
