Earth’s Children and May events at the Buda Public Library

Check it out
by SUE BELLOWS

The last in a wonderful series of historical fiction is finally complete. Jean M. Auel has penned the concluding chapter in the “Earth’s Children” books with volume six, “The Land of Painted Caves”.

The saga began with “The Clan of the Cave Bear” and was followed by four more novels that chronicle the journey of an orphaned child into adulthood. The series takes the reader through prehistoric times, with fascinating insights into Stone Age customs and the lifestyles of cave dwelling cultures of early Europe.

Ayla, the heroine, has moved from life as an outcast among the Neanderthals who found and adopted her, through a life of exile from her adoptive clan, to her journey north, where she finds people like herself in the cave dwellers of early Europe. Ayla’s inventive spirit and courage carry her through a fascinating journey, full of insights into the life and customs of the early Stone Age. This perspective of historical anthropology keeps the reader riveted through page after page, chapter after chapter, and from book to book.

If you are not familiar with this series by Jean M. Auel, check them out from our excellent Buda Public Library. And if you have enjoyed the first five books of the saga, you will certainly enjoy “The Land of Painted Caves”. It is available in a large print edition.
