Entering Tuesday night’s contest at Alamo Heights, the Lehman Lobos knew they needed only two wins out of three remaining games to punch their ticket to the postseason.
But the Mules have post-season aspirations of their own and kept their slim playoff hopes alive by beating Lehman 11-1 behind junior pitcher Adrian Nedeau.
Nedeau surrendered three hits on the mound while driving in three at the plate for Alamo Heights (4-7 in District 27-4A).
The Mules struck early against Lobo starter Hunter Lehman in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 lead with Garrett Werner and Nick Lerick each doubling in a pair of runs.
“I don’t think it was one of Hunter’s best performances but give them credit for hitting the ball hard tonight,” Lehman head coach Toby Robinson said.
Lehman’s only run of the game came in the top of the first inning as Nick Cerda launched a home run to right center on a 3-0 pitch to give the Lobos an early 1-0 advantage.
The loss forces the Lobos to beat both Clemens at home this Friday and Lockhart on the road next Friday in order to advance to the playoffs. Should they fail to do that, Alamo Heights would get the final spot by virtue of their season sweep of Lehman.
“We know what we have to do to get where we want to go,” Robinson said.
