Mountain City Montage
by PAULINE TOM
No need to mark your calendar for City Elections this year! The Council voted to cancel the election, since only three applications were submitted by the deadline for the three positions up for election.
Although one council member, Carolyn Hagan, up for election decided not to run again, two other incumbents, Les Dullnig and Lee Taylor, submitted applications for a place on the ballot. In addition, Brian Wilson submitted an application. Dullnig, Taylor and Wilson will be sworn in at the first council meeting following the May 14 general election.
Brian Wilson brings years of experience with budget preparation (for the State) to the city. Did you know that he’s a licensed massage therapist?

Here comes Loving Mountain City, hopping down the bunny trail, with 1,593 stuffed plastic eggs, with 333 prize eggs (dozens for ages 0-2; ages 3-6; and ages 7-11).
Hippity Hoppity. Hippity Hoppity, the Mountain City Easter Egg Hunt starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.
A student needing to stuff some hours into community service stuffed the 1,593 plastic eggs.
Many thanks to those who donated eggs and candy and prizes.

Many have been hunting for information about the times and dates for the city’s newly purchased recycling trailer. Montage missed knowing about the open hours (8 a.m.–noon) last Saturday, April 16. At this point, no additional dates appear on the City’s official online calendar at www.mountaincitytx.com

RonTom called out, “Are you okay?” from the other end of the house when I let out a loud gasp on Monday morning. The FOS (first of season) take-my-breath-away male Painted Bunting landed just outside my bedroom window! Wow. Red, indigo and chartreuse.
Aerial acrobatting Ash-throated Flycatchers entertain in our backyard nowadays. Their purple-streaked white eggs (the Easter bunny sure couldn’t create such gorgeous eggs) sit in a nest cup in a dense nest inside a nestbox, near the Eastern Bluebird nesting. Are these the first Ash-throated Flycatchers to nest in Mountain City? They’ve looked at our nestboxes in past years; but, Driftwood marks the closest spot on the map where I’ve heard of nesting Ash-throated Flycatchers.
According to Wikipedia, “The egg is a pagan symbol of the rebirth of the Earth in celebrations of spring and was adopted by early Christians as a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus.”
The resurrection of Jesus! Hallelujah! He is risen! He is risen, indeed!
