Simon raises Mcfunds
Members of the Simon Middle School faculty and staff will be hard at it, serving up hamburgers, fries and drinks this Thursday, Sept. 28, at their “McTeacher Night” at the Kyle McDonald’s. Set for 5–8 p.m. Simon staffers will be behind the counter with the usual workers, providing service with a smile for a percentage of the night’s proceeds. While on the subject, the recent Negley Elementary “McTeacher Night” raised $745, setting the bar high for fundraisers to come.


SAT offered Saturday
Hays CISD seniors from any high school will have the opportunity to take the SAT on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Hays High School. The test site will offer 10 stand-by spots the morning of the test, for an $82 fee. Students are directed to arrive at 7:30 a.m. with a filled out registration form. Lil Cheer Clinic set Oct. 3-6
The Hays High School Rebel cheerleaders host  their Lil Cheer Clinic next Monday-Thursday, Oct. 3-6, from 4:15-6 p.m. in the Joe Graham Gym. The clinic is for campers from three years old through 6th-grade. Cost is $25. Family specials are available. Campers receive a t-shirt and a chance to perform at a high school football game. Bowl-a-Thon Saturday
Students, staff and friends are invited to Hays High School Art Club’s “Bowl-a-Thon” this Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m–noon in Room B100 of the HHS campus. The event is designed to enlist help creating bowls for the club’s “Empty Bowl” event (a charity to help fight hunger), set for this December. To finish off the bowls, a “Glaze-a-Thon” will be scheduled in November. Pet vaccination clinic October 13
The latest in a long run of pet vaccination clinics will be held at the Hays CISD Administration Building Thursday, Oct. 13, 5-7 p.m. Dr. John Tarlton will once again handle the clinic, which offers a complete yearly vaccine package for dogs or cats for $20. Individual vaccines are also available and flea and heartworm preventative will also be offered. The clinic is sponsored by the Hays County Aggie Moms as a community service project. Science Hall Suns offer annual health fair
Science Hall Elementary is sending out a first call to the community for its 3rd Annual Health Care Carnival, set for Saturday, Oct. 8, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Immediately prior to the carnival’s opening, the Suns PTA sponsors its Family Fun Run, offering a 10K, 5K, and Fun Mile, with staggered starts at 7:30, 7:40, and 7:50 a.m., respectively. Sign-in begins at 6:45 a.m. and all participants receive a t-shirt and a complimentary breakfast following their run or walk. The carnival offers free activities and health screenings from a wide range of area care providers, as well as entertainment by the Chapa Middle School Mariachi, Dance Unlimited of Buda, Traditional Martial Arts of Kyle, and a Zumba demo by Elite Fit. Hawks seek carnival help
Hemphill Elementary hosts its Fall Festival Friday, Oct. 14, 5:30-8:30 p.m. and Hawks secretary Brenda Ponce is putting out a call that the organizers “sure could use some community help volunteering in booth areas.” To offer assistance, contact Ponce at 268-4688 or [email protected] or contact Parent Liaison Maria Vasquez at [email protected].


San Marcos NJHS inductee from Kyle
Eighth-grader Alyson Parker of Kyle was one of three students from her class recently inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at San Marcos Academy. The honoree is the daughter of Allen and Bobbie Boone and her sisters, Storey and Chelsea, 9th and 7th-graders, respectively, also attend the Academy. The Academy NJHS service projects include collecting cans and funds for the local food bank and gathering stuffed animal “Rescue Buddies” for the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and other area first responders.
