Budafest weekend... for reals

Let’s try this one more time. It’s beginning to look a lot like a Budafest weekend. The big two-day event has been rescheduled to this Saturday and Sunday. A parade down Main Street will kick things off at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. There will be lots of food, arts and craft booths, free entertainment, carnival rides and of course Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be in town. The local businesses along Main Street will be open and ready for shoppers. There will be parking, for a small fee benefiting Project Graduation, behind the pavilion at City Park (follow the signs) and some on-street parking available. The Budafest committee made the right decision by cancelling the event last week so with better weather coming, let’s make this the best ever Budafest.

The Onion Creek Senior Citizens are asking for community support of their Budafest booth, which will be stocked with baked goods and wonderful handmade items. The seniors’ booth is located under the old oak tree across from the gazebo.

There were 220 plates of turkey and dressing along with all the trimmings served Sunday night at Santa Cruz Catholic Church for the area senior citizens. Much thanks to the Knights of Columbus and to the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary for providing such a wonderful evening of food, gifts and entertainment.

Having purchased only three tickets, Kathryn Wilcox of Burnet, had the winning one for the raffle of the quilt made by the Buda Bees of the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center. The drawing was held Sunday night after the dinner at Santa Cruz Catholic Church. Wilcox, notified by telephone at her home where she was hosting a dinner party, yelled out “I won” which surprised all her guest. The quilt has found a good home since Wilcox is a member of both the Marble Falls and New Braunfels quilt clubs.

There will be photos with Santa and the kids will go home with a craft. While the event is free to the entire family, the Y is asking for a $5 donation to the Partner of Youth Campaign. The Buda Library is sponsoring a Christmas music concert on Monday, Dec. 19 starting at 6 p.m. at the gazebo. Terry Capps will be on piano with Melinda Hodges, our Library Director, singing our favorite songs of the season. The public is invited to join in. In case of rain or very cold weather, the concert will be moved into the library meeting room.
