‘Beauty and the Beast’ at Lehman
The Lehman High School Theater Department presents a musical version of “Beauty and the Beast” Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. The presentation, set for Lehman Theatre, is also being offered Saturday night, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and a Sunday, Nov. 6, matinee at 2 p.m.


Hays Theater production opens Saturday
Hays High School Theater Department presents James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” on consecutive weekends in the Burdine Johnson Theater. Play notes tease audience go-ers, asking “An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Riding Hood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A witch who raps? All of it leads to a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.” Weekend shows include a 7 p.m. Saturday evening, Nov. 5 and Nov. 12 production and a 2:30 p.m. Sunday matinee Nov. 6 and Nov. 13. Barton Band offers concert
The Barton Middle School Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform in concert at their campus this Thursday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. The Bobcats 7th and 8th-grade bands will perform, with the order of performance beginning with the Concert Band, followed by the Symphonic Band. The Barton Wind Ensemble’s performance concludes the evening’s concert.


Blanco Vista carnival Friday
The Blanco Vista Elementary 2011 Fall Carnival is set for this Friday, Nov. 4, 5-8 p.m. According to its organizers the fun-filled evening includes “some great food and a variety of activities and games.” The evening also includes a silent auction and “an outstanding raffle.”


Kyle Elementary carnival Saturday
The Kyle Elementary School Fall Carnival will be held this Saturday, Nov. 5 from 2–5 p.m. Featuring Miss Hays Co. and Miss Teen Hays Co. as well as food and games.


Glaze-a-thon at Hays High Saturday
The Hays High School Art Club invites the community’s participation in its Saturday, Nov. 5, “Glaze-a-Thon,” the follow-up to its earlier “Bowl-a-Thon” and next step in its Empty Bowl Project.  Students, staff, parents, and their friends are all encouraged to come to Hays High’s Room B100 (main building) from 9 a.m.-noon to apply the glaze to the earlier thrown bowls. Mariachis Dia de los Muertos set
The 2011 Dia de los Muertos Mariachi Extravaganza is set for Saturday, Nov. 5, 10 a.m.-2 p,.m., at Kyle’s Gregg-Clarke Park. Presented by the Lehman High School Band Boosters, the festival offers $5 BBQ chicken plates, a silent auction, parade, vendors, games “and lots of fun” according to organizers. The extravaganza includes a long list of performers and special guests, a few of which include Mariachi de Lehman, Lehman Los Lobos, Wallace Middle School Mariachi del Campo, Simon Middle School Mariachi, Chapa Middle School Mariachi Juvenil de Armando Chapa, the Fuentes Elementary School Glee Club and Ballet Folklorico de Central Cultura de San Marcos. Roadrunner StuCo helping Turkey
The Camino Real Elementary School student council is taking on its campus responsibility for participation in the Turkeys Tackling Hunger campaign on behalf of the Hays County Food Bank. The Roadrunner council will be accepting food donations such as pinto beans, rice, canned fruit and vegetables, tuna, soup, pasta, and more. Donated items can be brought to the school until Thursday, Nov. 17. Clothes Closet opens weekly
The Camino Real Clothes Closet is now open to Camino Real Elementary families every Wednesday from 4:30-6 p.m. Doors are locked for entry at 5:45 p.m. The facility is providing students with three tops, three bottoms, a jacket (if needed), new socks, underwear, and a pair of shoes (if needed). Students may receive a clothes voucher from their teacher, the school nurse, or any CRES staff member. Walk-ins from the CRES community are also welcome. Families can access the site once a month. Adult and toddler clothes are limited. Donations of gently used clothes and new underwear and socks are greatly appreciated. Elementary choirs perform Tuesday
Four Hays CISD elementary school choirs and the district Children’s Honor Choir will perform their Fall Concert next Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Performing Arts Center. On stage for performances will be the choirs from Blanco Vista Elementary, Fuentes Elementary, Camino Real Elementary and  Negley Elementary, as well as the Children’s Honor Choir. Academy sets McTeacher Night
The students and staff of Live Oak Academy will host a McTeacher Night at the Kyle McDonald’s next Wednesday, Nov. 9, 5-8 p.m. The campus student council will be given a portion of the restaurant’s proceeds from that three-hour window of time and the public is cordially invited.


The Live Oak Academy PTSA also has a Saturday, Dec. 10 garage sale in the works, with coordination with the Hays High School Christmas Bazaar.
