Holiday festivities are upon us

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

As I looked out of the backdoor Saturday morning, I saw puddles of WATER! What a wonderful way to start a day. About one and a quarter inches of rain fell during the night. Though we need lots more to fill the ponds, creeks, rivers and cracks in the ground, all are thankful for every drop. It looked more like spring than winter, with all the green fields of oats, wheat and grass.

Speaking of thankful, I hope all had a good Thanksgiving. Sometimes it’s not easy to feel thankful with a lot of problems on your shoulders, but if you sit back and reflect a moment, there are always worse things that could go wrong. Family is the greatest gift in our lives, for which Raymond and I are so very thankful. Even though our country is in stressful times, we are still thankful our ancestors came to America to live.

Don’t forget the piano concert at St. John Lutheran Church in Uhland on Sunday, Dec. 4. Come for the worship services at 10:30 a.m., have lunch next door at the Rec Center and then enjoy the Christmas music in the church at 1 p.m. That is Sunday, Dec 4. Ya’ll come.

Visitors coming on several days to visit with Raymond and Myrtle Heideman at Legend Oaks were Brian and Dennis Heideman, Adelene Wisian and Clarence Heideman. Mike and Debbie Moore and sons brought and shared lunch with Oma. Opa is on a special diet. After lunch, Daniel and Sharon Heideman accompanied by Oma, drove to Temple to visit with Herbert and Pauline Schwertfeger and also to wish Herbert a happy belated 90th birthday. Other visitors were Herbert’s son Mike and Mike’s daughter Kim and David and Wendy Kilburn and their children, Caitlyn, Ethan and Kaden of Belton. The Dwight Schwertfeger family of Las Vegas also visited on Herbert’s birthday. Dwight came later for Thanksgiving weekend.

I am sure many of us are still eating leftovers. Hey, be thankful you have that.

Having a Thanksgiving breakfast is a great way to start the day. Myrtle Heideman accompanied Daniel and Sharon Heideman to the home of Mike, Debbie, Rainey and Cooper Moore, in Kyle and were joined by Virginia and Lisa Moore for a great meal and visit. Later, Myrtle spent the day with Raymond at the nursing home in Kyle.

I am sure there were a lot of family gatherings in the community, just not reported.

The families of Margaret Holt gathered in the Ray Patterson home for a Thanksgiving Day of good food and visiting.

Did you get all your trash piles burned? Noticed where a lot of folks took advantage of the lifting of the burn ban.

The Christmas party for St. John Lutheran Women’s Guild will be held at the home of Barbara Hanna on Saturday, Dec. 10 with a carry-in lunch followed by a program and party. There will be no meeting on Dec. 3.

Get well wishes and prayers are sent to Jean Collier. Jean spent a few days in the hospital and has returned home. Take care, Jean.
