Odds & Ends

It rained! A beautiful 2-1/2 inches reportedly fell in the Uhland community. You could almost see the grass and the weeds responding to every drop. Even “pepped” up my bell peppers. Picked a couple of .69 cent ones yesterday, even have a few red ones. Tomatoes are slowing down, but enough for our use, with a few to freeze. Despite the drought, thanks to an undetected leaky water pipe, the figs are doing well, just a bit small. Thanks for the rain, looking forward to a few more inches.

A live concert for the public, featuring Don Irwin on the piano will be presented on Sunday, July 10 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Maxwell. A light meal will be served at 5 p.m., the concert is at 6 p.m. and dessert will be served during intermission. All are welcome. Church address is 291 Church Street in Maxwell.
Just received news (Sunday afternoon) of the death of Louise Simon, wife of Delvin (Red) Simon, of Kyle. Louise was a classmate of mine when I attended Kyle High School as a freshman from Uhland. I will always remember Louise’s smile and friendship. Sympathy is extended to the family.

Glad to hear Kenneth Schnautz’s cheerful voice on the telephone. Though he is still not “up to par,” he sounds good and says he feels much better. Hang in there.

Best wishes to Cyndy Barton. Have not heard what happened but take care and advantage of the time of leisure.

Glad to report that calls are still coming in to say that families are still searching for history, etc. of their loved one’s military service. Even though the dedication of the Veteran’s Wall is to be held Wednesday, July 13 at 5 p.m. at the Uhland Community Center, there will always be a place for all interested veteran’s and/or their family’s pictures and histories. Remember the public is also welcome to attend the dedication.

Okay, Oma, let’s get this right. Raney Moore did go to Oklahoma, but not to play ball. He was among a group of youngsters from the First Baptist Church of Kyle who enjoyed a church camp in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Then on Friday night he joined his mother, Debbie Moore and grandparents, Daniel and Sharon Heideman to watch the Texas Rangers and Mets baseball game at Arlington. On Saturday and Sunday he and his teammates of the Manchaca Maniacs played in a tournament at Mansfield, Texas. They won second place in the tournament – congratulations.
