Thankful for every drop

Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

“Manna” from Heaven is what I call the rain that fell last Thursday. Granted more rain is needed, but it sure looked and felt good. I got caught loading supplies into the car in San Marcos. It was dark as midnight, for a time. The Uhland area received one to one and half inches depending where you reside. Thanks for every drop.

Catching up on news from last week. The St. John Women’s Guild met on Saturday, the 7th for their monthly meeting with Barbara Hanna and Gloria Maier as hostess. Gloria presented the program on “Women of the Bible,” which was reported by those that attended, as very interesting and well done. Those of us who are not able and/or sometimes other matters prevent us from attending, miss good programs, fellowship and good food. All are reminded that the “sock drive” for residents in the nursing homes (men and women) continues. Thanks for the plates of food.

St. John Women’s Guild voted to send $200 to the Tornado Relief Fund to help those in the south eastern part of the states. A door collection was also taken after the worship service for the survivors of the recent devastation. Theses donations will be forwarded to the LCMS World Relief.

Noticed the café in Uhland was sporting a new coat of paint and cars and pickups parked around it. Yes, it is open. Rosie’s Diner opened last Thursday and the menu sounds delicious. Breakfast consists of various tacos, breakfast plates, etc., served from 6-11 a.m. Lunch plates, chicken fried steaks, various Mexican plates, hamburgers, etc. served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. I enjoyed the visit with Rosa Martinez who I worked with for many years at Hillside. Mary, another co-worker, joined us. Best wishes to Rosa and Robert Martinez. The phone number at the café is 512-398-6887.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Nora Boenig who passed away last week after an extended period of ill health. She was a resident of Chisholm Trail Nursing Home in Lockhart. Funeral services were held at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart and burial was in the Lockhart City Cemetery. Pastor Carlson Jakubik of St. Paul United Church of Christ did the funeral service.

Glad to report that Herbert and Pauline Schurertfeger are both recovering at home after a hospital stay in Scott & White in Temple. Stay well!

Others on the not so well list are Jim Alexander, Cheryl Shelley, Ed Daugherty, Gilbert Haberer and Raymond Heideman, who suffered another fall. Prayers and best wishes to all.

Thanks to Dorothy and Morris Henderson for the telephone call to say they missed the column last week. Sorry but health and time inferred. Dorothy (Haberer) and Morris are both homebound in Wimberley and keep up with Uhland by reading this column.
