City of Kyle declares drought status

SUBMITTED REPORT

The city of Kyle has moved into stage one water restrictions due to recent drought conditions, city officials announced on Monday.

Watering between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. is now prohibited and a mandatory twice per week watering schedule is in effect as the region braces for summer after an unseasonable dry winter and spring, officials say.

Residents with odd-numbered addresses are allowed to water on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays, while even numbered addresses can water on Thursdays and/or Sundays. Commercial and multi-family customers can water on Tuesdays and/or Fridays.

Officials say that at least one of the city’s water suppliers, Edwards Aquifer Authority, has declared stage one drought conditions, with the others likely to follow suit.

The stage one restrictions also require at least a one-day notification to the city manager prior to irrigating new landscape.

In addition, the following constitute a waste of water and are also prohibited: failing to repair a controllable leak, including a broken sprinkler head; a leaking valve; leaking or broken pipes; or a leaking faucet.

Violations also occur if irrigation water is allowed to run off the property such that there is a trail of water running in the street for a distance of 50 feet or greater, and/or water is allowed to pond in the street or parking lot to a depth greater than 1?4 inch, officials say.

For more information on the status of water management in the city, go to the city’s web site at www.cityofkyle.com.

The city of Buda had not imposed water restrictions as of early Wednesday.
