Jewelry stolen from Buda hotel
Police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry that was reportedly pinched from a hotel room in Buda on Sunday.
At around 10:30 a.m., Buda police responded to the theft call and were told that several pieces of jewelry, estimated between $4,500 to $5,000, were taken from one of the rooms at the Comfort Inn and Suites.
Police did not see any signs of forced entry. They are currently waiting to view footage from the hotel’s video surveillance cameras, Chief Bo Kidd said Monday.
Kyle mother charged with endangerment
A 29-year-old Kyle woman has been charged with leaving her four children at home unsupervised on St. Patrick’s Day, police say.
Jennifer Paris was arrested last week on two counts of endangerment of a child with intent to return, a state jail felony, after a Child Protective Services case worker noticed her inside Nephew’s bar in San Marcos.
On March 17, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Paris residence in the 2300 block of Bebee Road, where they discovered four children, ranging from one to 11 years old, without adult supervision.
In the home, a deputy observed potential hazards, including various chemicals in the hallway, an unplugged circular saw in the living room, a large knife on a kitchen countertop, old plates of food and open windows, which could allow access to the home, according to an affidavit used to secure an arrest warrant.
During the police interview, Paris confirmed that she was at the bar and drank half of a beer as she waited for a friend. She stated that she was dropping off a beer pong table at the bar and picking up an Xbox game from the friend, the affidavit, written by Detective Lenny Martinez, said.
Paris has since been released from Hays County Jail on bonds worth $10,000, court records say.
Thief busted after pawning stolen property
A 20-year-old was arrested after he sold items to a Kyle pawn shop which had been stolen from two garages, police say.
Thomas Davila, of Kyle, was booked last week after he was linked to the stolen property that was sold to Cash Box Pawn on Burleson Street for $20 on April 16.
Police say Davila pawned a tool box and a lawn chair, and tried to sell an extension cord and numerous bungee cord tie downs to a pawnshop worker.
The same day, the homeowners reported to police that items were stolen from their garages the day before. When questioned by police, Davila said that he got the items from a friend, but would not identify the friend to corroborate his story.
Davila remains in custody at Hays County Jail on bonds worth $13,000 for both charges, plus a misdemeanor theft charge out of Austin, court records say.
