A great big ‘thank you’ to all of you

Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

I can think of a better way to spend a vacation, but on returning home and catching up with the mail, all the beautiful get well cards, the messages, the phone calls, the food, how do you expect me to keep my “girlish” figure? And the visits, thank you so very much. I must not forget the cards from several “friends” I have never met and the families who are sharing their vacation with cards from points of interest they are enjoying. Thanks to one and all for the words of encouragement and prayers. The beautiful bouquet of flowers, which are still beautiful, from Jean Collier that she shared for her mother Margaret Wranitzky’s birthday, were placed in St. John Lutheran Church in Margaret’s memory. So all said and done, the memory of the fall, the surgery, the rehab is all forgotten by all the beautiful memories of good friends and relatives.

Speaking of friends and relatives, none will ever be forgotten for all that was done to accomplish the wonderful memory wall honoring our military veterans. Our dream has come true, but it might not have, had not so many “grabbed hold and ran” with the idea, helping get names and addresses, passed the word, did computer work, etc. So please pat yourselves on your back and take the credit. I have only the biggest “thank you” to all.

The dedication was beautiful (I saw the video), the music, Mr. Maier and Mayor Heideman, speeches, the Honor Guard, Taps, the song by Courtney and all who took part, including those in charge of the refreshments, Sharon, Karon and Gloria (did I get them all?).

Gladys Sorrells returned from a trip to the Hawaiian island Kawai. She accompanied her son Tim and his wife Debbie and their daughter, Mia. Gladys reports a wonderful trip. The foliage and flowers were beyond description, as were the sunrise and sunsets. This is the island where the movie “South Pacific “ was filmed.

Visiting with Raymond and Myrtle Heideman on Sunday were Herbert and Pauline Schwertfeger of Temple. They had attended their home church, St. Paul UCC, in Lockhart and shared a delicious barbeque meal (Chisholm Trail, of course) with us.
