With the weather hopefully getting a little bit cooler make plans to come downtown Buda for “First Thursday” on September 1. Many of the shops on Main Street will offer special sales and refreshments for the downtown shoppers. Rollin Hot Grill, formerly Main Street Café, will host a grand opening with barbeque and live music on the side yard and serving regular menu items inside. Art Around Buda will have art demos in front of Buda Library and art exhibits at Buda City Hall.

We send out good wishes to the Thames and Owens families for the speedy recovery of their sons. Gunner Thames was critically injured in a bulldogging accident last Friday. He is slowly recovering after having surgery and is in Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Will Owens had surgery on Wednesday to remove a tumor. He is in Seton Hospital in Austin. Both boys are students at Hays High School.
Something has killed nine of the Barbados Sheep owned by Leroy and Elva Opiela. The females and babies were killed sometime in the last couple of weeks with only one male surviving.

Medicare & You is the topic for a senior forum on Thursday, September 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Ministries, 401 RR 967 in Buda. There will be a panel of experts to answer your questions about what Medicare pays. Comfort Connection and the Onion Creek Senior Citizens will host the forum.

A ten-week women’s Bible study class will be offered by the Buda United Methodist Church for all ladies of the Buda/Kyle area. The classes “Believing God” by Beth Moore will be held on Thursday mornings from 9:45 a.m. until noon from September 15 to November 17 in the fellowship hall of the church at San Marcos and Elm streets in Buda. The ladies at Onion Creek Senior Center are again making their delicious King Ranch Chicken Casserole. Two sizes will be available - $12 (serves 4-6) and $17 (serves 8-10). The casseroles will be ready for pick up on Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Get your order in early, deadline is Monday, Sept. 12. Due to drought conditions, the Buda Farmer’s Market has temporarily closed for a few weeks. The market will re-open on Saturday, September 24 with a “Fall Harvest Festival.” Timing for the re-opening is good since the first day of fall is the day before so we should have that “fall” like weather coming.
