Annual Academic UIL competition has always been something at which Hays CISD schools have excelled and the recent 2011 District 27-4A meet at Schertz Clemens High School once again demonstrates the fact as both Hays and Lehman high schools had strong overall showings. Individuals hit highs, teams had solid performances, and promising contingents of students, as always, qualified to advance to regional competition, to be held at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Hays High School finished second in district, just five points off of Smithson Valley’s winning show, qualifying 15 students for regionals. Erin Stage, who serves as UIL Coordinator at Hays High School said, “We were concerned about several of the schools in our new district since we had not gone head-to-head against them at any of our area practice meets. But our students and coaches definitely stepped up to the plate and blew away the competition!”

The Lobos accumulated 133 total points at district. Lehman High School UIL Coordinator Michael Saberian said of the meet, “We have a great group of kids who trained hard. These Lobo Sapiens have worked around busy school and work schedules to perform in an intense competition. We look forward to building on their skills as we get ready for regionals.”
