The Lehman Lobos track and field team fared well at the District 27-4A Track and Field Meet last week at Canyon High.

As a result, the Lobos will be well represented at the Class 4A Region IV Track and Field Meet May 2-3 at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.

Senior Justin Torres captured the 300-meter hurdles for the second consecutive year.

“Justin has been the heart and soul of this team all season long,” Lehman head boys coach Michael Laney said. “He has been our top performer and hasn’t finished lower than second at any meet this year.”

Torres, three time regional qualifier, also won the event last season in a school record time of 39:51 seconds.

Junior Jaylon Hardaway spearheaded a pair of relay teams that advanced to regionals, one of which included Torres.

Both the 4x400-meter relay team of Hardaway, Torres, Ethan Martin and Darius Jones qualified for the regional meet, along with the 4x200-meter relay squad (Hardaway, Martin, Jones and Trevor McClintock).

Hardaway, who anchored both of the same relay teams at last year’s regional meet, has fought through adversity to make his return to the regional level.

“Jaylon has fought through injury and sacrificed competing in the 400-meter dash to help get the 800-meter relay team to regionals,” said Laney. “He has stepped up big at all of our meets.”

Jones will be an alternate in the high jump while freshman Tyler Hyss will serve as an alternate in the 110-meter hurdles for the Lobos.

“Ethan has been a constant on this team and is a selfless team player,” said Laney. “He just comes out every day and works his rear end off. While, Trevor has been the biggest surprise for us. He has been the first leg of both our relay teams. They both have had great seasons.”

McClintock also was a finalist in the 200-meter dash, finishing just short of a regional berth.

The Lehman girls will also have a relay team at the regional meet as the 4x200 relay sprint team of senior Monique Johnson, junior Cydney Ervin, freshmen Aleeya Eskridge and Heidi Munoz placed third to earn their trip to San Antonio.

“It was a solid team effort and a lot of the girls posted individual bests to cap off a very successful season,” Lehman head girls track coach Matt Cramer said.

The top two finishers in each event at regionals will advance to the state meet in Austin in mid-May.
