Mabrey Weldon McDaniel, age 70, of Buda, affectionately known to family and friends as ‘Big Mac’, died at home on Thursday morning, November 24, 2011, following a long illness.
Weldon was born October 25, 1941, in Taylor, Texas (Williamson County) to the late Mabrey W. McDaniel Sr. and Eva Baker. He attended McCallum High School and subsequently worked at the State Capitol as a page. He then served in the U.S. National Guard at Camp Mabry in Austin, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant (State Hq and Hq Det, TexARNG). On May 28, 1966, he was united in marriage to Linda M. He was a loyal, dedicated employee who loved his job, and was a proud member of IBEW Local 520 for 45 years. Weldon retired in 2010.
Weldon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed traveling and the occasional night out at the casino with his best friend and wife, Linda. Many summers were spent camping at Lady Bird Park in a pop-up trailer with his wife and three children, as he loved his family and the outdoors. Rarely did Weldon miss an event involving any of his children. More recently, he was able to spend quality time with his two toddler grandsons. As a friend, Weldon was one of the best.
