There’s commerce in Uhland

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Did you read the report that told us that the City of Uhland’s population since 2000 has grown from 386 to 1,014 in ten years?

Welcome!

The businesses in Uhland have also increased. The following are here to serve you: Gordon’s Equipment, Elvia’s Treasure Shop, Sun Country Orchard, Highway 21 Septic Works, Bon Ton Market, Five Star Concrete, K&J Woodworks, Nona’s Café and Grill, Thompson Supply, Reid’s Nursery, County Line Water SUD and, of course, our two churches, St. Michael Catholic Church and St. John Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod). There is also the Uhland Community Center that is available to rent for reunions, weddings, etc. and Jim Roach Welding Shop that is open part-time. Of course we miss Club 21, a landmark for years. Who said we are just a small village?

We are still working on our Wall of Honor and Memory and were encouraged by a letter, which included a picture and history of a “young” man who served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1959 to 1965. His daughter states, “Dad and I think what you are doing is so great and are honored that you want to include Dad.” Yes, we do and would like more response to this effort.

The Women’s Guild of St. John Lutheran Church met for a luncheon meeting on Saturday. It was decided to have another “Sock Drive” for nursing homes. Even if it is close to summer, the elderly need something to cover their feet during air conditioning time. The drive is for men and women. Also, a special food drive will be held on the last Sunday (March 27) and then quarterly on the last Sunday of the month.

Because of conflicting events, the Harvest Festival will be held on October 22. More on this at a later date.
