L.B. Polley, 80, was born July 14, 1930 and the Lord took him home on Monday, May 16, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Una and Stadler Polley, his wife of almost 50 years, Bernell Polley, sister Beryle Petrosky and husband Clarence, brother-in-law JP Johnson, sisters-in-law Geri Polley, Bernice West and husband Weldon, and step-son William Dean Maddox.
He is survived by his loving wife Vera Polley, daughter Pam Polley, son Dale Polley and wife Teresa, step-sons Denver Adkins, Frank Maddox and wife Kay, stepdaughters Ilene Carpenter and husband Ronnie, Vivian Carpenter, 12 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren, his sisters Doris Johnson, and Helen Schaeferkoeter and husband Arnold, brother Billy Polley, and sister-in-law Jo Ann Bearden, many nieces and nephews and all of their children and a multitude of friends.
L.B. will always be remembered for his quick wit, ability to fix literally anything, his love for cars, his quick temper at sporting events, and the abundance of love for his family. Everyone knew if you ever really needed anything, even if you didn’t yet know what you needed, L.B. was the first one there to help you out. He was a father to so many of his nieces and nephews and a grandfather to their children. We were so blessed to have had him in our lives and also thankful that God took him home where there is no more pain. We are sure there has been quite the homecoming party in Heaven today.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ilene for being such a great “nurse” to him and to the amazing, caring staff at Christopher House in Austin. As the new Justin Moore song says, “losing him wouldn’t be so hard to take, if heaven wasn’t so far away.” We will miss you with all of our hearts, Daddy, rest in peace and keep watch over us.
Funeral service was May 19. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice Austin’s Christopher House, 2820 E. Martin Luther King Blvd., Austin, Texas, 78702.
Memorial service was Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the Capital Cowboy Church, Manchaca, TX.
