The Kyle H-E-B Plus Read 3 Program, designed to collect a million children’s books and distribute them to homes in need of reading material, drew a great deal of support from local school campuses. HEB’s Leata Bartlett reports the Pfluger Elementary Falcons led the way by contributing 590 books, but ample help also came from Tom Green Elementary, Science Hall Elementary and Simon Middle School.

CRES named All Star School
Camino Real Elementary School recently received designation as a National Anthem Project ‘All Star’ School by the National Association for Music Education for the Roadrunners’ participation in the Sept. 14 nationwide event. The organization created a campaign in 2005 to emphasize music education in schools and to demonstrate the need for students to learn the national anthem.  The National Anthem Project is annually held on Sept. 14, the anniversary of the date Francis Scott Key wrote the words to The Star Spangled Banner. All CRES students studied the national anthem in music classes, learned its history and created a bubble map describing the song with adjectives.

Buda Bulldogs need Buddies
Buda Elementary School students have long benefitted from strong community mentoring, known on their campus as the Buda Buddy Program. The Bulldogs are once again seeking volunteers for the program and are inviting them to a Tuesday, Oct. 11, 6 p.m. orientation at their Kunkel Room. Counselor Debbie Daniel calls the program “a difference-maker” and says that Buddies need to commit to just 30 minutes per week, listening to and encouraging a single student. For more information, contact Daniel at 268-8439, ext. 6736, or [email protected].
