Odds & Ends

Don’t ask! No we did not get any rain. Not even a drop, lightning struck nearby and burned out our coffee pot. Did not realize the water shortage was that serious – hope enough is there for a pot of coffee, if I had one. (I do).
Noticed that the last of the cotton along Gristmill Road has been harvested. Good to see several of the large modules of cotton at the end of the field. Now, it may rain!

To correct the mistake in one of the papers, the Claiborne Kyle Log House did NOT sponsor the chicken fry at St. John Lutheran Church in Uhland. It was the Men’s Fellowship of St. John; I have no idea why that appeared in the column.

Best wishes and prayers go with Annie Sassman, who has returned to The Texan Nursing Home in San Marcos after several admissions to Seton Hospital. She has been very ill. Also to Myrtle Carson, a former member of St. John Lutheran Church, who has been having a lot of health problems.

Charlotte Franklin and Gladys Sorrells spent an afternoon helping sort and pack baby food and supplies for Bastrop victims of the fires and other needy residents. Gladys reports that truck loads of goods were still coming in.
Charlotte and Gladys joined Ruth Holt at Jean Collier’s home one day last week for an afternoon of “chicken foot” and fellowship.

Got your turkey purchased? Time to get out your recipe book for the cakes, etc. for the Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Uhland Community Center. The Woman’s Guild of St. John Lutheran Church could use some help and items for the children’s games, raffle, silent auction, bake sale, country store and the outdoor garage sale. It all starts at 8 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Come join the fun and games.
