At lunch the other day, a sassy waitress in a black tank top sauntered over to a table at the Rollin’ Hot Grill in Buda.

Her first name was Janet. Her last name was Miller, like the High Life.

“It’s all pretty good here,” Miller said to two men who were looking over the menu. “I’ve probably gained 15 pounds.”

“The Tres Queso burger is to die for,” she added.

“Is it gonna give me a heart attack?” one of the customers asked.

“I hope so,” she replied.

Miller works for Lorri Lowden, who was a waitress and manager before buying the diner in April. Lowden celebrated her restaurant’s grand opening in September after changing the name from Main Street Cafe to Rollin’ Hot Grill.

Rollin’ Hot’s specialties include burgers served on sweet sourdough buns, hand-battered chicken strips and chicken-fried steaks, barbecue and homemade fries.

Business has been good, Lowden said. Eventually she hopes to fix up the restaurant’s courtyard and offer downtown entertainment in the evenings, but for now Rollin’ Hot is a BYOB establishment. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 116 N. Main St.

Lowden’s mom, Sherry, owns the Painted Horse Pavilion, and Lowden has other ties to the area.

“My grandma was raised in Buda,” she said. “She or an aunt had a cafe here a long, long time ago.”
