REYES

Robbery suspects indicted

Suspects in the holdup of stores in Buda and San Marcos were indicted on aggravated robbery charges last month, court records show.

Joe Valdez Reyes, of Kyle, is suspected of using a handgun to rob a Sac-N-Pac in San Marcos on March 26, where he made off with around $200, records say.

The next day, police arrested Reyes, 39, after he was pulled over in Kyle and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after police found a handgun in his vehicle.

In 2002, Reyes was sentenced to 10 years in prison for home burglary and retaliation before he was released in November 2010. According to records, Reyes confessed to this latest robbery.

VELASQUEZ

In an unrelated case, Laura Velasquez, 27, was indicted in connection to the Gamestop robbery in Buda on Nov. 15, records show.

Police say that Velasquez served as the getaway driver for two male suspects who donned ski masks and gloves and used handguns to rob the video game store on the 1500 block of Main Street.

According to witnesses, the men tied up four people in the store and took off with cash and gaming systems worth around $2,000, police say.

The suspected robbers, Keith Taylor, 41, and Stephen Morrison, 27, have since been arrested outside the county on unrelated robbery charges.

Reyes is scheduled for arraignment on June 6 while pre-trial motions for Velasquez are slated for June 8.

As of Tuesday, both remain in custody at Hays County Jail charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery, which carries a punishment range between five and 99 years in prison if convicted.

AGUIRRE

Indictment in Kyle stabbing

A 20-year-old Kyle man has been indicted for allegedly stabbing a 19-year-old man twice in the back in an altercation on March 6, court records show.

Jose Aguirre is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, for using a large kitchen knife to stab the man at a home in the 200 block of Mathias Lane, records say.

A witness told police that Aguirre quickly stabbed the man two times outside the home, then ditched the knife on the side of the porch. The victim did not suffer serious injuries, police say.

Aguirre remains at Hays County Jail on a $10,000 bond and his arraignment is slated for June 8, records say.

MUNOZ

Kyle babysitter charged with sexual assault

Police arrested a 23-year-old Kyle man last month for the alleged sexual assault of a 9-year-old boy while in his care.

A family friend, Alejandro Munoz, of the 100 block of Staghorn Pass, is believed to have sexually assaulted the boy in March and April, court records say.

In May, the boy refused to return to Munoz’s home and told his mother of the assault.

Munoz was arrested May 13 on three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, all first-degree felonies, which carry a punishment of five to 99 years in prison if convicted.

On Tuesday, Munoz remained in custody at Hays County Jail on bonds worth $300,000.

LEE

Teen charged with sisters’ abduction

Juvenile kidnapping charges have been filed on a 14-year-old girl who absconded with her two young sisters prompting an Amber Alert to be issued last week, authorities say.

Kendra Lee took her sisters, aged two-and-half years and 16 months, from their Kyle home on May 20. Almost a week later, investigators found the girls, who were unkempt but in good health, in Austin near Rundberg Lane and Interstate 35 on Friday.

The girls’ mother, Lorrie Cantu, 36, told authorities that she left that morning for work and returned around 11:30 p.m. and discovered her children, along with her Chevy truck, were missing. She also revealed that Lee has a mental illness for which she isn’t medicated and has run away in the past.

The case is still under investigation and it’s unknown if the mother will also face charges. The toddlers are currently being cared for by family members, however, authorities would not confirm if the mother also has contact with the children.
