Wimberley man gets 12 years for manslaughter

COMPANIE

STAFF REPORT

A 51-year-old Wimberley man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he ran over and killed a woman last year, court records show.

David Companie pled guilty to manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid charges. The latter charge was later dropped before he received a sentence of 12 years for manslaughter on May 26.

Wimberley resident Kelly Cabler, 45, was hit at the intersection of Camino Ashley and Days End Road near Wimberley at about 5 p.m. on May 13, 2010. She was transported to the hospital but eventually died from her injuries.

The next day, Companie was pulled over in a gold Nissan Pathfinder, allegedly involved in the incident. Investigators have said that Companie and Cabler knew each other but did not say how.

Companie has a criminal history of assault and drunk driving charges. In 1996 and 2009 he was arrested for family violence assaults. In February 2010, he was arrested again for his second drunk driving charge, which is slated to go to trial on July 7.

He has been in custody at Hays County Jail since May 14, 2010, and will receive back time credit in his latest sentence, records show.
