STAFF REPORTS

An impressive array of first place finishes paced the Hays High School Criminal Justice Team at the Skills USA Criminal Justice District Meet in Waco. No fewer than six first place wins highlighted the Hays effort, each advancing one or more local students to their upcoming state meet in Corpus Christi late this month.

Sponsor Jeanne Morris was justifiably beaming with pride on her team’s return from the district competition, noting, “All of their hard work and dedication really paid off. I’m so proud of them!”

A pair of individual first places went to Christian Thompson, those wins being in the Firefighter and First Aid/CPR categories. Sharon Klingemann did a first place, state-qualifying project as an individual.

Other first place showings came on the efforts of Chris Snoeberger and Raymond Hayes for Felony Traffic Stop and Thomas Shannon, Cris Partidas and Melyssa Harvell for Crime Scene Investigation. The Hays Quiz Bowl team of Shannon, Harvell, Partidas, Snoeberger and Caitlyn Quigley rounded out the Rebel spread of firsts.

Recognition also went to team members John Michael Ibarra-Peyton and Tony Tovar who earned a fourth place in Building Search.
