Classic Car Show comes to an end, but the world remains the same

Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Well, the world did not come to an end. At least Uhland is still intact. What did come to an end was a successful Classic Car Show and Bar-B-Que at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday. Even tho’ the “guys” had to move the pits across the street under one of Gordon’s sheds, (happened last year also) to get out of the rain, someone said, “Maybe we should have bar-b-que every month.” The bar-b-que was delicious, as was the rest of the meal. As always, the “girls” worked right along with the “guys,” cooking, serving, taking care of booths, etc.

The silent auction was very successful. Thanks to the organizers, donors, and of course, the bidders. The raffled bar-b-que pit was won by George Lyons Jr.

The Car Show was well attended, despite the threatening skies. There were 18 cars registered at the open car show. “Thank you” to the Gearhead Car Club for their participation. They donated two trophies for the event. The Gearheads chose Vicki Schawe’s 1957 Briggs-Stratton Putt-Putt car as their choice for the “People’s Choice” award.

There was a three-way tie for the People’s and Best of Show Award that everyone voted for. The car numbers were placed in a jar, and were drawn. Winners of the “Best of Show” award went to William Ilse for his 1956 Chevrolet 2-door hardtop and Tommy O’dell’s 1969 Plymouth GTX. “People’s Choice” award was won by John Larkin on his 1956 Ford F100. Thanks to all who participated.

It was good to see so many friends from various neighboring communities and churches, including our own Jim and Cindy Alexander who are always there when they can be. Jim is still recovering from a motorcycle accident and is able to walk with the help of a crutch. They are readers of this column (Thanks) and keep up with us!

The Honor and Memory wall of our military is progressing. Forty-six pictures have been put in frames and were attached to the wall this past weekend. More will be added, if you have not been contacted or have not had time to complete your entry, there is still time. For more information call 398-3800 or 398-4748. All military personnel, who have served or are serving are welcome to participate.

Coming by to see Raymond and Myrtle Heideman on Saturday were Adelene Wisian and her brother Clarence Heideman of San Marcos.

Hope all have a safe Memorial Day weekend. Be sure and fly your flag and say a prayer or two for all our military.
