Kathy Ryan, Library Building Committee chair, stopped by last week and filled us in on the new library paver program they have been sponsoring for the past month or so. When I stumbled across it, I was surprised that so few people were aware of the project. Evidently, information was included in city utility bills last month and those of us who pay online must have missed it. So, here’s the lowdown.
The pavers are red brick and will be installed in the outdoor plaza at the entrance to our new Kyle Library, slated to open sometime next spring. Each paver will be etched with the names of individuals or organizations and, if ordered by June 30, 2011, will be in place for the library’s grand opening festivities.
You can find further information and order forms on the city and library websites as well as at the Kyle Public Library, 268-7411. This is an incredible opportunity to support the library that we fought so fiercely to keep downtown. Show your dedication to the city you’ve chosen to call home or honor a loved one by placing your order today.
I took an afternoon drive out to the 150 Market last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. By one o’clock, the day had already gotten still and sticky and I totally expected to find dusty, cranky people. Instead, I found a cool breeze inside a market housed in an open-air shaded pavilion, with happy, informative folks peddling everything from organic produce to fresh roasted coffee to hand packed beef. It’s five minutes from downtown and definitely worth the drive.

And speaking of open air, the June Movie in the Park is called “How To Train Your Dragon” – a 3D computer-animated fantasy about a young Viking dragon slayer who makes friends with a young dragon. The flick starts at dark so grab your kids, some snacks, a blanket and some OFF and head down to Gregg-Clarke Park for a free Friday night under the stars.
