Academic preparedness is the most important step in preparing for your future. Good grades are a key factor in the college admissions process. You can keep track of your grades through your progress reports and report cards. The Parent Portal offers the most updated look at your academic progress.
First, take a look at your class schedule. All high school students are required to take four years of study in the core subject areas and other required courses for graduation. Taking the most rigorous courses in high school is important. Hays CISD also works with Austin Community College to offer Early College Start at all high school campuses. You can earn high school and college credit at the same time. Show colleges you have chosen a specific field of study such as engineering, and you are taking all the high school courses offered to prepare for your chosen college major or future career pathway.
Your transcript is a running record of each semester grade you receive for each course you take in high school. Make the best grades possible! How can you make better grades? Seek help from your teachers and go to tutorials. Complete every homework assignment and attend each class. Study for your major exams and give extra time to your required projects. Form student-led study sessions to prepare for each test. When a major project is due, look over the guidelines for the project and make sure you have completed each requirement.
Time management is a required skill for high school, college and life. You might be involved in numerous extracurricular activities, clubs or community volunteer efforts. You could be a class officer or a student leader for a school club. These activities are all important, but you must concentrate on being a good student first. Show colleges and future employers that school is important and good grades are your main priority.
Good luck with your classes this school year. Every grade you make this year is a step toward your bright future.
