Buda Chamber of Commerce
After a long absence from the Hays Free Press, the time has come for me to return to the paper to offer my thoughts on various issues in the Buda area. Some are chamber related and some are just things of interest.
As you may or may not be aware, I suffered the loss of my youngest son last August and the loss of my partner of 50 years, Carolynn, last November. Those occurrences caused me to put my priorities on a different list.
I would like to thank all of my friends who have been so kind to me for the last several months. Your support has been beyond all expectations and you all continue to support me in the kindest way. Thank you, thank you for all of your help.

The community has shown great feelings for Carolynn with the recent dedication of the Carolynn Schneider Community Garden on the YMCA property, many memorial books at the Buda Library and the Carolynn Schneider memorial art scholarship fund at the Buda Fine Arts Festival. All of these wonderful dedications are tribute to a fine lady who worked tirelessly to help make Buda the place it is. She was the best and will not be forgotten. Now I will go on with my life and remember what she taught me:
“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

We are currently getting ready for the 4th of July Celebration in downtown Buda from 10 a.m. to noon. It will include a parade (don’t forget to decorate your bikes/wagons/etc.), and free children’s activities including a magician.
The chamber will be selling our famous Oscar Mayer wieners with chips and a drink for $3. Come one, come all for a great time before it gets too hot.
The day will continue with a 6 p.m. concert and, at this time, the 9:30 p.m. fireworks show is still scheduled. As the drought continues, the fireworks show may be cancelled but, at this time, it is still on. All and all, the day should be filled excitement and fun.

Also, don’t forget Toons and Tunes every Friday night (except July 1) in City Park. Enjoy bands under the pavilion and watch family-friendly movies under the stars. Movies begin at 9 p.m.; concerts begin at 8 p.m. Free admission.
The summer activities will be great and I hope you all get a chance to participate in them.
