STAFF REPORT

Kyle officials are urging residents to clear brush and take other precautions to reduce the risk of wildfires, after 25 acres burned over the weekend and a separate fire destroyed a home on Tuesday.

The first fire broke out Saturday off Post Road south of the Blanco River, near the San Marcos-Blanco Cemetery between Kyle and San Marcos. No one was injured and no homes were evacuated, but local and area firefighters battled the fire over the weekend before declaring it contained.

On Tuesday, a home burned to the ground in an unrelated fire in the 300 block of Oak Meadows Drive, off Hilliard Road south of Kyle. The blaze spawned grass fires and caused an explosion when a propane tank combusted, authorities said.

A family of six was displaced by the fire, and one resident suffered minor burns but was not hospitalized. Firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby homes and the surrounding countryside, authorities reported.
