Jarott (Jerry) Myers (1928-2011)

Jarott (Jerry) Myers of Kyle died on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the age of 82. He was born in Hobart, OK on July 3, 1928, to Ada Emma Gates and Frank J. Myers.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Barbara, sisters Dorothy, Argivina, Irene and Pauline. He is survived by his wife Velma, her daughter Christina Reynolds (Chris), brother Leon (Sheila); stepdaughter Sherry Murphy (Dan), stepson Jackie Mills (Sue); grandchildren Nicole Bernero (John), Shonna Shelton (Trace) and Christopher Murphy; great-grandchildren, Rob, Mason and Reilly Shelton, Abby and Katie Bernero, special personal friends, Frank (Cathy) Sughrue and sons John and Clayton and John Garza (Cindy).

Jerry and Barbara Myers were members of the American Miniature Horse Association. Myers Miniatures bred quality miniature horses. Jerry was also a large supporter of the Monastery of St. Clare in Brenham, TX, which held an annual miniature horse auction. Jerry volunteered his time in helping the monastery with their first auction and every auction after that. Jerry’s love for the mini’s didn’t stop there. He also provided rides to kids at local events. He walked many a mile leading the chosen horse in the same circle just to put a smile on a child’s face along with a picture to last a lifetime. Jerry also had other business interests: he had an auto transmission shop, boutique and hair salon. He was a bus driver for special needs kids for Hays CISD for 16 years up to the time of his illness.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of the second and fourth floors of Seton Hays Medical Center, and Dr. Uyeki and staff for all the special care they provided for Jerry in his time of need. The family would also like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Angel Cheatham, RN and Iris Velasques of River City Hospice, Gracie Pacheco and Sandra Soto.

Visitation and rosary was held Monday, June 20, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Kyle with mass at the church on Tuesday, June 21. Internment was at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca.
