STAFF REPORTS
It’s hard for some of us to get our minds around it, but coming over the near horizon is “back to school” time, with its necessary focus on school supplies. For some local families, that focus isn’t always an easy one, as the suggested supplies for even one child can be taxing. Many parents in Hays CISD face the task of putting school supplies into the hands of multiple children and charitable local donors have long helped with that task. The first such opportunity presents itself this Friday, July 22, 6-8 p.m., with “What a Kick-off,” the 7th annual School Supply Drive at the Buda Whataburger, just in front of Wal-Mart on old San Antonio Road.
Hope and Love 4 Kids is the overall sponsor for the annual drive, with all donations going to benefit students of Hays CISD who are in need of supplies for the coming school year.
A free Whataburger will go to the first 50 people to donate to the drive Friday and on-site highlights include free face-painting, appearances by HEBuddy and Whataguy, free balloons for kids, free sandwich and dessert samples, a chance to spin the Whataburger Prize Wheel, free video games in the mobile Games2U game theater, and the chance to meet race car driver Austin Beck and check out his car.
The list of school supplies is long, but any donation is appreciated. Items include back packs, plastic supply boxes, composition notebooks, wide-ruled notebook paper, Crayola markers (thick), #2 pencils, colored pencils, large pink erasers, 1.5” binders, 8 oz. glue bottles, highlighters, watercolors, pocket folders (w/brad), dividers, tissue, pens, crayons, glue sticks and pencil bags.
