The Hays County Commissioners Court will hold a public hearing 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, to discuss proposed changes to the County’s On-site Sewage Facility regulations.
The hearing will be held during the regular Commissioners Court meeting at the County Courthouse, 111 E. San Antonio Street in San Marcos.
“We revised our Development Regulations in 2009, and anticipated tweaking them after the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality reviewed the On-site Sewage Facility rules,” said James Clint Garza, Program Manager for Hays County Development Services. “These proposed changes include streamlining the permitting process, which will cut down on some of the paperwork required for applicants. TCEQ has approved our On-Site Sewage Facility Order, and one requirement for adoption is to hold a public meeting to discuss the finalized document.”
Additional proposed changes include requiring a minimum of one acre for surface applications of treated wastewater and prohibiting surface applications for non-single-family residential use; requiring advanced OSSF systems to be maintained by a licensed maintenance provider who is registered and in good standing with Hays County Development Services; and surface application systems will require much greater distances from property lines, vegetable gardens, etc., to prevent overspray due to wind.
