A backhoe pierced a natural gas line as it tried to fix a water leak, closing off a portion of FM 150 next to the new Exxon gas station in Kyle on Friday. City of Kyle Public Works employees were called out to stop the water leak at the site and while a city contractor helped dig a hole out, a backhoe ruptured the natural gas pipe, causing water to spew up to 10 feet in the air for about 30 minutes, authorities say. Officials at Center Point Energy, who manage the gas line, said that a two-inch plastic line was damaged but has been repaired as of 12:30 p.m. It’s still unknown how much water or natural gas leaked out.
