Financial Aid Saturday

Financial Aid Saturday is set for Saturday, Feb. 5, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the Hays High School library. The event will assist seniors – or any former graduate or current college student – in completing the Free Application for Federal Students Aid (FAFSA) for the 2011-12 school year. Volunteers from a number of agencies, as well as Spanish language translators, will be available to assist. Seniors should contact their school counselors for information on items to bring and early registration. Parents and students should bring a copy of their W-2 and income tax forms to complete the FAFSA. All Financial Aid Saturday services are free and open to all seniors, regardless of their campus. An unconditional $250 prize is offered. Race fees are $5 for elementary students, $10 for middle and high school students, and $15 for 18 and over. Three school levels and 10 age groups are offered and first, second and third place awards will be given in each category. An alternate activity, Zumba, is $5. Register online at hayscisd.revtrak.net. For more information, contact Whitney Self at [email protected].

Speller omitted

As sometimes happens when we’re listing the hundreds of student names we publish for recognition, we recently missed one. Kudos to Pfluger Elementary fourth-grader Juli Smith, one of Katie Campbell’s great STEM students, who was among the 47 campus winning qualifiers to the Saturn V Spelling Bee. We apologize for the omission from the original story.
