Camino Real’s robotics team, the Roborunners, took first place in the teamwork section of the recent Central Texas First Lego League qualifier. Twenty-six teams competed in five categories including robot game, robot programming and design, research, teamwork, and the champion’s award. First and second place winners in these categories were invited to compete in the Central Texas First Lego League Championship next month in Austin.
Camino’s Roborunners have been working for the past nine weeks on a bioengineering challenge.
“It was fun and challenging to work together to complete missions and learn about bioengineering,” said team member Ramirez Hernandez.
For the research portion of the competition, the Roborunners learned about the effects of asthma in children. They prepared a song and dance that informed the judges of a potential bioengineering solution to the problem.
“It felt good to share my knowledge with others in a creative way,” German Olivares Benitez said.
