Lobos reach for the stars
Lehman High School used an Education Foundation Innovative Teaching Grant for their “Reach for the Stars” project that has literally allowed participants to reach into space. Teacher Judy Cooper reports grant money was used to form a radio club, build a radio and install an antenna on the LHS roof. Hopes were for NASA to allow the club to use its new instruments to contact the International Space Station and interview its astronauts. The Lehman students got into the 1 to 2-year waiting line and have, in fact, been scheduled by NASA for a visit with the space station in late March.
Hays High art recognized
A number of Hays High School art students are taking part in the Art House Co-Op’s Sketchbook Project. Art 3 and Art 4 Drawing and Painting students in Marnie Hart’s classes have their personal sketchbooks entered in the national tour that will visit Austin over spring break. The Hays students’ work will be on exhibit at the Austin Museum of Art during that tour stop.
Lobos in living newspaper
Lehman High School teacher Claudia Vasquez has been selected to have her classes participate in the Living Newspaper Project, an outreach program of the Performance as Public Practice Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Participating students in Vasquez’s classes will see newspaper stories about human rights brought to life in their curriculum by researching topics, writing scripts, and doing performances based on their studies.
