SUBMITTED REPORT
Guillermo “Willie” Tenorio Jr. has filed for re-election to the District 2 seat on the Hays CISD Board of Trustees.??“I am running to continue my service to the students, parents and staff of the Hays CISD,” said Tenorio.??Tenorio has served on the school board since December 2009, when he was appointed to serve the unexpired term of Joe Munoz, who resigned. No one filed to run against him in a special election and Tenorio has served on the board since. He is now seeking a full three-year term.
Tenorio, a Kyle native, is married to Daphne Tenorio, immediate past PTA president at Fuentes Elementary and the current Chapa Middle School PTA board historian. Their children are Will, a student at Chapa Middle School, and Natalia, a student at Fuentes Elementary.??Tenorio is active on his children’s campuses.
“Daphne and I enjoy working with the school district and it is particularly special to us to spend time at Fuentes Elementary. We know how much the students, the staff, the teachers and community meant to Aunt Susie.”
Fuentes Elementary is named for Tenorio’s aunt, lifelong Kyle resident Susie T. Fuentes.
Tenorio is a graduate of Hays High School and received a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition, Tenorio attended Kyle Elementary and Hays Middle School.
“My graduation from the Hays school system gave me a firm educational foundation,” says Tenorio. “A good education helps each student with a great start in life. I’m running to make a difference in the lives of the young people in the district.”??Tenorio cites his professional experience as an asset to service on the board.
He is a business analyst at the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services where he works on process improvements and technical assistance with enterprise accounting software. Previously, he worked monitoring federal housing programs, developing policies and interpreting federal regulations and auditing grant and loan programs.
He has also worked as an accountant.??“My strong financial policy and analytical experience helps me in my role as a board member,” said Tenorio. “During the current financial challenges, we must preserve the quality education our students receive.”
Tenorio has served on the District Leadership Team (DLT) and on the 2004 Citizens Bond Committee. The committee proposed an $89.4 million bond package that received overwhelming support – paying for the construction of two new elementary schools, one new middle school, and district-wide improvements.
