The ghouls have all gone home

College, career planning fair Tuesday

“Planning for Tomorrow…Today,” a Hays CISD-hosted college and career fair, is set for next Tuesday, Jan. 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Performing Arts Center. The fair’s opening hour focuses on free college for high school students, ways to reduce college costs, higher education opportunities, and preparing middle and high school students for college. The second hour is a Career and Technology Education fair, providing information on career and technology courses at Hays and Lehman high schools. Translation services will be provided for Spanish-speaking parents.

Growth impact hearing set

Two public hearings remain for Hays CISD’s Growth Impact Committee, which continues to look at modifications of the attendance zones at Hemphill Elementary and Camino Real Elementary. A hearing is set for Thursday, Jan. 13, 6 p.m. at Hemphill and another is set just prior to the Jan. 24 Board of Trustees meeting. The proposed modifications include moving approximately 71 students residing east and south of Highway 21, from Hemphill to Camino Real. The idea is to provide Hemphill relief on next year’s student-to-teacher ratio.

Suns learn about bullies

Rick Torres, with the Texas School Safety Center recently talked to Science Hall Elementary students about the seriousness of bullying. His presentation was an attempt to raise awareness of what constitutes bullying and what students can do to advocate for themselves and others.  He also addressed cyber-bullying and gave students a working knowledge of what constitutes bullying and harassment.
