Kyle Parks & Recreation
by KERRY URBANOWICZ
We all know that Santa is coming to Kyle on or before December 25th, but he has recently agreed to make an early stop on December 1. Santa actually stopped by the Parks Department office last week to finalize the plans, and no one recognized him. He had the beard and rosy cheeks, but he had a few pounds to gain. He agreed to tour the town on Wednesday, December 1, after school lets out. He will arrive at Kyle City Hall around 4:30 p.m. to visit all that want to talk with him. H-E-B Plus will be on hand to take pictures with Santa.
School choirs will be singing their hearts out in front of the Historic Kyle Train Depot beginning at 4:45 p.m. Elementary, middle and high school choirs from Hays CISD are scheduled throughout the evening. The Historic Kyle Train Depot is located across Front Street from Kyle City Hall. The complete schedule of each school and details of the evening are available at www.kylepard.com.
Front Street, between Center and Lockhart streets, will be closed to traffic after lunch on December 1 so stages, sound, lights and vendors can set up for the evening’s events. Plenty of parking is available on Front Street south of Center Street. Please be very careful crossing the street and stay away from the train tracks.
Located next to the Train Depot, the City Christmas Tree will be lit at 6 p.m. when selected children help Mayor Johnson “flip” the candy cane switch. All the lights in downtown will magically light up as well. The other holiday attraction in Kyle will bring music and lights together in a unique show at the Kyle Pool. Stop by the Kyle Pool at Gregg-Clarke Park, 1100 W. Center St, any evening in December and tune your car radio to 100.1 FM and enjoy. The season of believing and sharing begins now.
