Buda Bits

by SANDRA GRIZZLE

It’s beginning to look like a Budafest weekend is coming up. The big two-day event is this Saturday and Sunday. A parade down Main Street at 10 a.m. Saturday morning will kick off the festival. There will be over 125 food, arts and craft booths, free entertainment, carnival rides for the kids and of course Santa Claus will be in town. The local businesses along Main Street will be open and ready for shoppers. There is paid parking, which benefits Project Graduation, behind the pavilion at City Park (follow the signs) or on-street parking on various streets.

The Onion Creek Senior Citizens are asking for community support of their Budafest booth which will be stocked with home baked goods and handmade items. Also show your support for the Buda seniors by purchasing raffle tickets for the hand-made quilt drawing. The quilt tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The drawing for the winner of the quilt will be held Sunday evening at the Knights of Columbus dinner at Santa Cruz Catholic Church. The seniors’ booth is located under the old oak tree on Main Street near the gazebo.

The Friends of the Buda Library Book Sale will open December 2 and 3 in the evening from 6 to 8 p.m. for the Members Preview Book Sale. The Preview is open to current members of the Friends of the Library and memberships are available at the door. There are lots of great books for Christmas gifts or for your cozy winter reading. The regular Budafest Book Sale will be from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, December 4 and 5. Also, items donated by local businesses for the silent auction will be on display Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Be sure to stop by your library.

Again this year, the Knights of Columbus will provide a traditional Christmas dinner at Santa Cruz Catholic Church on Sunday, Dec. 5. The free dinner is provided for all area senior citizens. Serving starts at 5 p.m. and you can bet there will be good food, door prizes and lots of great entertainment. The drawing for the handmade quilt made by members of the Buda Bees of the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center will also be held during this time.
