WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley Texans won their 20th District Championship, and their third consecutive gold ball, with a decisive 34-22 win over Lago Vista at Texan Stadium on Friday, Oct. 27.
The Texans used Cody Stoever over and over and over. The junior quarterback carried the ball 23 times for 179 yards with three touchdowns and eight of 14 completed passes for 106 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown pass to Noah Birdsong. Stoever scored touchdowns on runs of 25, 28 and two yards and Chase Carson scored on an 18-yard run. Wimberly held a 27-7 lead at halftime.
“We all know our ultimate goal, but it feels good to get that gold ball and the district championship,” Stoever said after the game. The Texans totaled 327 yards on offense. Carson had 31 yards rushing and Owen O’Neal added 17 yards. Nolan Waida, who had an interception, led receivers with three catches for 70 yards. Birdsong had two receptions for 25 yards and recovered a Viking fumble. Wimberley (9-0 overall, 4-0 district) wraps up the regular season on the road at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 against Austin Achieve (2-7 overall, 0-4 district).
