Controversial call stops Stoever short of dramatic comeback

Coming into the high school Class 4A D2 state semifinal game on Friday, Dec. 8 against Bellville at the Pfield in Pflugerville with a 14-0 record, Wimberley and the Texans’ quarterback Cody Stoever had been unstoppable — and Bellville couldn’t stop Stoever either. Stoever carried the ball 43 times for 203 yards and scored all five of the Texans touchdowns, but a controversial call on a two-point conversion play to tie the game stopped Stoever inches from the goal line, ending the Texans’ season with a close score of 33-35 and denying them a chance to play for the State Championship.

SAN ANTONIO — The Wimberley Texans held a 49-0 lead over Orange Grove at halftime and coasted through the second half in the 4A Region IV Area round of playoffs on Friday, Nov. 17, at Schertz Clemens High School. The final score was 49-7, after the Bulldogs managed to finally get on the board in the fourth quarter.

Wimberley Texans dominate in season opener

— The Wimberley Texans scored in every way possible in a game of football in their home opener against Canyon Lake on Friday, Aug. 25. The Texans ended the game with a 60-6 win over the Hawks, who scored their only touchdown on a 72-yard run with 2:28 remaining in the game. After the Hawks opening kickoff, quarterback Cody Stoever set the tone leading the Texans 72 yards in 12 plays and ran the ball in for the first of three rushing touchdowns, totaling 48 yards on 12 carries.
