The Wimberley High School Texans and Dripping Springs High School Tigers success stories last year ended before the final chapter for both football teams could be finished; each are eager to pick up where they left off, but the rewrite won’t be easy.

By Wayland D. Clark WIMBERLEY — The News-Dispatch named Wimberley Texans’ quarterback Cody Stoever as the 2023 Player of the Year.

Coming into the high school Class 4A D2 state semifinal game on Friday, Dec. 8 against Bellville at the Pfield in Pflugerville with a 14-0 record, Wimberley and the Texans’ quarterback Cody Stoever had been unstoppable — and Bellville couldn’t stop Stoever either. Stoever carried the ball 43 times for 203 yards and scored all five of the Texans touchdowns, but a controversial call on a two-point conversion play to tie the game stopped Stoever inches from the goal line, ending the Texans’ season with a close score of 33-35 and denying them a chance to play for the State Championship.

By Wayland D. Clark VON ORMY — In the Class 4A Division II High School football playoffs, Wimberley claimed the Region IV Title last Friday night at Southwest Legacy Stadium with a 38-13 win over the Sinton Pirates.

By Wayland D. Clark SAN ANTONIO — The Wimberley High School football team and its fans were stunned after the opening kickoff when Ingleside High School's Nate Ambrose ran 77 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game in the 4A Region IV Semifinals at Heroes Stadium on Friday, Nov. 24.

SAN ANTONIO — The Wimberley Texans held a 49-0 lead over Orange Grove at halftime and coasted through the second half in the 4A Region IV Area round of playoffs on Friday, Nov. 17, at Schertz Clemens High School. The final score was 49-7, after the Bulldogs managed to finally get on the board in the fourth quarter.

The Pearsall Mavericks were no match for the Texans as Wimberley’s record improved to 11-0 with the Bi-district win last Thursday night at Alamo Heights High School Stadium in San Antonio.

— The Wimberley Texans Football team remained undefeated after traveling last Friday to take on Austin Achieve in the final game of the regular season.

WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley Texans won their 20th District Championship, and their third consecutive gold ball, with a decisive 34-22 win over Lago Vista at Texan Stadium on Friday, Oct. 27.

The Wimberley High School Texans remain undefeated in district play after securing a 4820 win over the Navarro High School Panthers at an away game on Friday, Oct. 20.

WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley Texans varsity football team won 49-13 against Jarrell at their away game on Friday, Oct. 6.

—Wimberley Texans quarterback Cody Stoever passed for 217 yards, reaching the 1,000 yards mark in five games, completed 21 of 28 passes, with four of those for touchdowns in helping the Texans (5-0) earn a 41-20 win over the visiting Lampasas High School Badgers (4-1) on Homecoming night on Friday, Sept. 22.

By Wayland D. Clark WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley Texans varsity football team scored early and often at Fredericksburg last Friday in a nondistrict game against the Billies.

— The Wimberley Texans scored in every way possible in a game of football in their home opener against Canyon Lake on Friday, Aug. 25. The Texans ended the game with a 60-6 win over the Hawks, who scored their only touchdown on a 72-yard run with 2:28 remaining in the game. After the Hawks opening kickoff, quarterback Cody Stoever set the tone leading the Texans 72 yards in 12 plays and ran the ball in for the first of three rushing touchdowns, totaling 48 yards on 12 carries.
